We do not want the year to end without them having time to complete what they missed in a class.) Thanks so much for helping us out with this!!!

Making a Family Star - Earn a Badge

Girl Scout Brownie Quest  Please help  Your Brownie in Her Quest!

Dear Girl Scout Brownie Family:

During your Girl Scout Brownie's first adventure on the Brownie Quest, she discovered some of the talents and qualities that make her special.

At her next Girl Scout session, your Brownie will earn the Brownie Quest's very first key.  But first she has one important step to take - and she needs your help.

Read the questions at the end of this letter and assist your Brownie in writing, and talking about, some simple answers to put on her star.  This is a great time for you to talk with your Brownie about a value of the Girl Scout Law that is important in your family.  Try to give your Brownie an example of what it means to act on a value described in the Law (such as being honest or courageous).

Your Brownie was given a star in class. This is for her family star project that you will do with her.

Read the Girl Scout Law with your family:

I will do my best to be
    honest and fair,
    friendly and helpful
    considerate and caring,
    courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
    respect myself and others,
    respect authority,
    use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

QUESTIONS to do with your family:

1.  What line from the Law is most important to your family?  Why?  (write your family's favorite line and the reason why in the center of your star.)

Here is an example:

Courageous - Sometimes it is hard to do what you know is right - that is why being courageous is so important!

What special quality or skill do your family members have?  (Write those under their names)

Examples:

Grandpa Bob
cooks a yummy breakfast

Mom
gread with tools

Sister - Noreen
likes to sing

Brother - Lee
shares games

After you fill in your star, decorate it if you want to!  Add colors, stickers, glitter, or whatever you want to do!  Then bring it in to our next Brownie meeting to earn your badge!!!

2nd Grade Brownies Valentines Meeting

Some things you need to know about our meeting this week:

Happy Valentines........and come ready to have fun!!!!!!

Cookie Booth Rules

Cookie Booth Time!!!!!

There are a few rules that has come from Council about booth sales.

1. Each booth will have a certain number of girls and adults allowed. Melba will have it posted, so please do not sign up if all the slots have been taken.

 2. No parents or tagalongs will be allowed to hang around the booth sale. Parents will have to drop the girls off and then leave the immediate area around the booth.

 3. No chairs are allowed at the booths, no climbing or sitting on any poles.

4. Girls have to wear vest, sash or girl scout shirt. They recommend the vest or sash. If you sign your daughter up for Lowes, they have to wear vest or sash. Lowes requires that.

 5. Daisys are not allowed to do booths at Walmart or any of the Parker stores.

If you sign up for a booth and the girls are unable to go, please let me or Melba know as soon as possible so we may be able to replace her with another girl.

Friday, January 11, 2013

Good Morning girls!  Guess what time it is.....COOKIE TIME!  I hope you ladies have been busy selling your Girl Scout Cookies!  The cookie rally was a great success....and you were given a lot of awesome ideas to help out your selling this year, so get to it!  We have set some goals in our individual groups and as a whole. We want to work really hard to meet those goals as well.  If your group has not set any goals as of the last meeting...be thinking of what you can contribute to your group and what you think your group should set as your goal as a whole.

Internation Day:

International Day will be coming up on us before we know so let us get busy now doing what we need to!  Each class has picked a region that they will represent on Internation Day.  The Brownies are doing Australia.  2nd grade and 3rd grade Brownies will be doing theirs together.  So far a few of the girls have stated what they will researching to add to our booth.  They are:
  • Girl Scouts (Australia) - Isabella
  • Arts - Riley
  • Fashion - Madeline
  • History - Gracie
  • Music - Kendra and McKenzie
  • Food - Emma D. and Ashley F.
  • Animals - Tabby

We are to create 300 swaps for our booth.  The girls can do whatever they want as long as it is something to do with Australia.  We discussed a few things like animals, a walk about (create a blanket roll), camping items, boomarang....

Blogspot isn't allowing photos to be added from my computer so .... check out Pinterest.com and search "International Girl Scout Swaps" and you will find a ton of different kinds to do.  They can be made out of pins, clothespins, baggies, candies....you pick! The possibilities are endless!!!!  We are eager to see the girls' creativity in work!

Badges:

2nd Grade Brownies have been working hard to complete badges.  The following girls should have gotten these badges or will be receiving them when they come in:

  • Celebrating Community - Allison, Emma, Ashley, Isabella, Kendrea, Madeline, Riley, Alex and Gracie
  • My Promise, My Faith - Riley
  • Olympic Gold - Isabella, McKenzie, Kendra, Madeline and Riley
  • Fair Play - Sofia, Allison, Emma, Ashley, Isabella, McKenzie, Kendra, Madeline, Riley, Alex, Gracie and Tabby
  • Girl Scout Way - Allison, Emma, Ashley, Kendra, Alex, Gracie and Tabby
The My Promise, My Faith Badge: If your girl scout has not earned the My Promise, My Faith Badge they can do so by doing the following: (taken from www.girlscouts.org) and then your parents letting your troop leader know that you have completed it by turning in any items you did.

Steps to earn the pin:

1. Choose one line from the Girl Scout Law.

Find a story, song, or poem from your faith ith the same ideas. Talk with your family or friends about what that line of the Law nd the story, song, or poem have in common.

2. Find a woman in your own or another faith community.

Ask her how she tries to use hat line of the Law in her life.

3. Gather three inspirational quotes

by women that fit with that line of the Girl Scout
Law. Put them where you can see them every day!

4. Make something to remind you of what you’ve learned.

It might be a drawing, painting, or poster. You could also make up a story or a skit.

5. Keep the connection strong.

Find out if your faith community offers a recognition program for Girl Scouts. Talk with your friends, family, or a group in your faith community about what you’ve learned about your faith and Girl Scouting. Ask them to help you live the

Law and your faith. Maybe you can show them what you just made or perform your skit!

Well, until next time......................KEEP SELLING THOSE COOKIES!!!!!!!

Coastfest!!!!

Can you believe it's almost October? Well, the first Saturday of October is Coastfest. We are manning the KBGIB booth. I am working on games for that booth so kids will actually want to visit it. Anyway, we will have the 2 costumes and need each level to volunteer to work one hou and 15 minutes. Pick your time and let me know. You can announce tomorrow in your meeting. Also, I can put it on the take home flyer.
10-11:15
11:15-12:30
12:30-1:45
1:45-2:30
2:30-3:45
3:45-4 clean up.
Each level can work one hour and 15 minutes. You might want to split your level up within that time. There might not be enough room or jobs for the girls if 13 show up at one time. You decide how you will man your booth. You will need 3-4 wearing the costumes and guiding the girls in costumes. Please walk with the girls if they choose to walk around all the booths while wearing their costumes. You will need 2-3 to man a game at the booth. If you have any ideas on a game, please let me know.
Thanks!, MELBA

Results of our last meeting and some reminders...

Well our first meeting was a success!!!!
Great job everyone for making such a wondering meeting and something to look forward for the days ahead!

Remember, Parents, this is your girl's group...and they should share responsibility in bringing a snack for everyone.  Please take a look at the Snack Rotation Blogs for your group and let your class guide/leader know what day you would like to bring a snack.  Of course the group number will increase/decrease as each week goes along...(I reccommend bringing a few extras just in case some new ones pop up). Check with your leader for the number in your class, please!

ALSO REMEMBER:  We are recycling cans to help fund our troop.  The troop/group that brings in the least amount of cans will be pied in the face! No worries..just whipping cream!   So, when you bring in your bags of cans...please make sure you write on the bags WHAT TROOP YOU ARE WITH (IE. BROWNIES 2ND GRADE.....) AND HOW MANY CANS.  No, they do not need to be crushed...but may if you like!  (its a great stress reliever!!! lol )

FEEL FREE TO HAVE YOUR GIRL SCOUT TO WRITE A THANK YOU CARD TO THE OFFICERS (MAN AND DOG) FOR TAKING TIME OUT OF THEIR SCHEDULE AND DAY TO HELP US UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF A DRUG DOG AND WHAT IS INVOLVED IN CARING FOR THEM AND TRAINING THEM.  I AM SURE THEY WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THE CARDS!!!!

SEE YOU AT THE NEXT MEETING!!!!!!!!!!
