News for this week 11/12

Thanks to everyone that was able to be a part of the Veteran's Day Parade!  I know it always makes the Veterans proud that they are honored in such a way!  They sacrifice so much so that we can have liberty; something we take for granted because we have never had it snatched away from us! Lets make sure we don't take for granted those that have fought for us to have it!  Thank you to everyone that has served this great nation in any and all capacities! AND thank you to all the girls and leaders that were able to be there.

Coastfest!!!!

Can you believe it's almost October? Well, the first Saturday of October is Coastfest. We are manning the KBGIB booth. I am working on games for that booth so kids will actually want to visit it. Anyway, we will have the 2 costumes and need each level to volunteer to work one hou and 15 minutes. Pick your time and let me know. You can announce tomorrow in your meeting. Also, I can put it on the take home flyer.
10-11:15
11:15-12:30
12:30-1:45
1:45-2:30
2:30-3:45
3:45-4 clean up.
Each level can work one hour and 15 minutes. You might want to split your level up within that time. There might not be enough room or jobs for the girls if 13 show up at one time. You decide how you will man your booth. You will need 3-4 wearing the costumes and guiding the girls in costumes. Please walk with the girls if they choose to walk around all the booths while wearing their costumes. You will need 2-3 to man a game at the booth. If you have any ideas on a game, please let me know.
Thanks!, MELBA

Results of our last meeting and some reminders...

Well our first meeting was a success!!!!
Great job everyone for making such a wondering meeting and something to look forward for the days ahead!

Remember, Parents, this is your girl's group...and they should share responsibility in bringing a snack for everyone.  Please take a look at the Snack Rotation Blogs for your group and let your class guide/leader know what day you would like to bring a snack.  Of course the group number will increase/decrease as each week goes along...(I reccommend bringing a few extras just in case some new ones pop up). Check with your leader for the number in your class, please!

ALSO REMEMBER:  We are recycling cans to help fund our troop.  The troop/group that brings in the least amount of cans will be pied in the face! No worries..just whipping cream!   So, when you bring in your bags of cans...please make sure you write on the bags WHAT TROOP YOU ARE WITH (IE. BROWNIES 2ND GRADE.....) AND HOW MANY CANS.  No, they do not need to be crushed...but may if you like!  (its a great stress reliever!!! lol )

FEEL FREE TO HAVE YOUR GIRL SCOUT TO WRITE A THANK YOU CARD TO THE OFFICERS (MAN AND DOG) FOR TAKING TIME OUT OF THEIR SCHEDULE AND DAY TO HELP US UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF A DRUG DOG AND WHAT IS INVOLVED IN CARING FOR THEM AND TRAINING THEM.  I AM SURE THEY WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THE CARDS!!!!

SEE YOU AT THE NEXT MEETING!!!!!!!!!!

Ways to Help Finance Troop 30024

Hello! Here are some ways that we finance our troop.  We would love more ideas if you have them.  Please read through and let us know if something "bright" comes to mind! :)

Good Deed Money - Fairy Mary Pig
This is our form of dues.  We ask the girls to do something good/nice for someone WITHOUT being asked.  Perform a "good deed" and with it they earn a quarter from the parents.  They come to the meetings with their good deed money, share what they did to earn their money and then they feed the pig.  We read over all the good deeds listed in our circle time.  We ask that each girl bring up to $1 each meeting (if possible) to help offset costs of patches and badges for the girls.

Nuts and Magazine Subscriptions and Girl Scout Cookie Sales!

Aluminum Can Recycling Project
Levels will compete to bring in as many cans as they can recycle.  This money will go in the troop account to help fund activities and purchase patches and badges.

Snack Counter
We will offer snacks for purchase in the narthex where the girls are checked in and out.  Parents may want to wait in this area for their girls.

Friday, August 10, 2012

The Cadette Uniform

* Uniforms make each girl easily identifiable to each other and to the public.
* Uniforms foster a feeling of unity among members.
* Uniforms reinforce the sense of belonging to the Girl Scout Movement.
* You are NOT required to purchase a uniform to be a Girl Scout. You WILL BE REQUIRED to wear a pin or girl scout t-shirt for public events (ie. Booth Sales)
* The sash or vest should be worn to the meeting and can be purchased throug the girl scouts website.
* The pants and white shirt are only for official ceremonies or activities (ie. Cookie Booth sales) and can be purchased at the store of your choice.
* Girlscoutshop.com - website to order uniform and related items. Also, join the email list and you will be notified of clearance items through the year.

Each girl will start their sash/vest with:
* American Flag Patch
* Insignia Tab (felt or ribbon)
* Iron On Troop Number (Must have all numbers 30024)

Cadette Girl Scouts (Grades 6-8) earn interest project patches (rectangles), charms, silver award and the gold award and patches.
Patches are different and more loosely defined. Patches are also fabric and come in many differnt shapes and sizes, but they don't all coome from our national organization. Some come from GSUSA for special projects, some patches are created by our local council, the unit or a local vendor such as a state park or museum.
There are two types of patches:
